Storage of Log Files

This page details some commonly asked questions concerning our logging policy.

How Long Are Log Files Stored?

The storage duration of log files containing personal data depends on the contracted product and legal requirements. Additionally, for many products, we provide customers with the option to determine if and how long log files are stored. In the event of an attack, we reserve the right to automatically collect log files to defend against the attack. These data are retained for a maximum of 14 days.

Please note that this article does not claim to be exhaustive. We update this article regularly to address relevant questions.

Webhosting

For our webhosting products, the storage periods for data differ based on the control panel used. Here is a list of the different possibilities:

WCP (old)

Here, as a customer, you can independently determine how long log files that log access to your websites should be retained. You can find the setting in WCP under "Websites" -> "Log Files" -> "Log Rotation". There, you can specify the number of days after which the logs should be deleted.

Plesk Onyx WCP (new)

For Webhosting products with Plesk Onyx, we store access to your websites for a maximum of 14 days. You can view the log files under "Logs" in the "Protocols" section. The log files are located within your Webhosting account in the "Logs" directory. There, you can also delete the files prematurely.

Statistics

In addition to log files, we provide statistics in Webhosting accounts. As a customer, it is your responsibility to disable the statistics if you are not allowed to collect visitor statistics for your websites.

You are free to use your own statistics tools, such as Matomo, and configure them according to your requirements.

Mail Server

For the following products, we collect log files for incoming and outgoing emails:

• Webhosting (WCP (old), and Onyx (WCP new))
• Managed Server
• Managed private Server

The log files do not contain the content of the emails but only connection data.

The data is retained for 14 days.

FTP Server

For the following products, we collect log files for incoming FTP connections:

• Webhosting (WCP (old), and Onyx (WCP new))
• Managed Server
• Managed private Server

The log files do not contain content but only connection data (login, IP address, action, file path).

The data is retained for 14 days.

SSH Server

For the following products, we collect log files for incoming SSH connections:

• Webhosting (WCP (old) and Onyx (WCP new))
• Managed Server
• Managed private Server

The log files do not contain content but only connection data (login, IP address).

The data is retained for 14 days.
