Setting Up Your Own Nameservers

The netcup nameservers are configured by default. Learn how to set up your own nameservers.

Info Before making changes to .de domains, check that your entries are configured according to DENIC requirements. You can use the following tool: https://nast.denic.de/.

1. Getting Started

  1. Log in to the Customer Control Panel (CCP).
  1. Select the Domains menu item.
  2. Click the Magnifying Glass Icon next to the domain you want to edit.
  3. Go to the DNS tab.
  4. Scroll to the bottom of the tab and select own nameserver from the drop-down menu.

2. Adding a Nameserver

  1. Click + additional nameserver.
  2. Enter the host name, as well as the IPv4 and IPv6 addresses, if applicable. You can obtain this information from your nameserver provider.
  3. Click Save nameserver.

3. Activating DNSSEC (optional)

  1. Make sure your own nameserver is already set up.
  2. Click + New DNSSEC entry.
  3. Enter the public key, flags, and algorithm. You can obtain this information from your nameserver provider.

How long does the process take?

It takes up to 48 hours for global DNS servers to implement changes. We therefore ask for your patience.

How can I store a DS entry? DS entries are not supported.
How can I store glue records?

Enter glue records when editing your nameserver under the IPv4 and IPv6 addresses.

I received a message saying that the nameservers do not manage the domain. Please contact your nameserver provider. You can only enter the nameservers once they report back that they manage the domain.
My own nameservers are not being accepted. What can I do?
  • For .de domains, check if DENIC accepts the entries. You can use the following DENIC tool: https://nast.denic.de/.
  • Check that you have entered two different nameservers. Some TLDs require two different nameservers.
